DevOps Engineer
Job description
We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer who will become part of our team and will closely cooperate with our colleagues from Achmea too.
In this role, your responsibilities include:
Platform Engineering & Development: End‑to‑end optimisation and enhancement of the Azure Analytics Platform. You work on improving performance, stability, and scalability, and on transitioning from PaaS components (ADLS, Synapse, ADF, SQL DB) to SaaSD (Fabric).
Complex Changes & Improvements: Initiating and delivering complex platform improvements, upgrades and changes. You identify bottlenecks, handle major changes in a structured way and ensure they are executed safely, controlled and with minimal impact.
Security, Monitoring & Compliance: Safeguarding security, monitoring, compliance and lifecycle management. You continuously monitor platform health and ensure alignment with the latest organisational and technological standards. You also implement new vendor versions to keep the platform up‑to‑date.
Incident & Root Cause Analysis: Analysing complex incidents and performing root cause analysis to deliver structural, durable solutions. You go beyond fixing symptoms and establish a robust foundation for the platform.
Advisory & Strategy: Advising product owners and technical leads on architecture, platform strategy and future developments. You play an important role in shaping the roadmap of the platform.
Coaching & Knowledge Sharing: Guiding junior colleagues and actively contributing to knowledge building within the team. You act as a sparring partner and help grow a learning, professional community.
As a DevOps Engineer within the Azure Analytics Platform, you play a key role in the ongoing professionalisation and growth of one of our most important data foundations. You actively contribute to the development, reliability and scalability of the platform used daily by our data scientists, engineers and analysts.
The platform is delivered through a self‑developed orchestration solution, connected to IT SMA, enabling you as a senior engineer to oversee the entire chain: from desired state configuration to the actual deployment via orchestration software and DevOps pipelines. Together with the team, you ensure this chain is continuously improved, standardised and future‑proof.

Personality requirements
Your background:
To make an impact as a DevOps Engineer for the Azure Analytics Platform, the following competencies are essential:
Deep technical expertise in Azure & IaC: You design, build and manage Azure components (ADLS, Synapse, ADF, SQL DB, Fabric) via Infrastructure as Code (Bicep) and DevOps pipelines. You automate provisioning, versioning and rollbacks, and can leverage PowerShell and C#/.NET when needed.
Example: Delivering a new Synapse workspace with private endpoints and a managed VNet via a reusable Bicep module and YAML pipeline, including approvals and blue/green rollout.
Security, Monitoring & Compliance Awareness: You ensure identity, network segmentation and data classification using RBAC, PIM, Key Vault, Private Links and Azure Policy. You implement end‑to‑end observability and plan-controlled lifecycle upgrades.
Example: Enforcing encryption and network isolation on SQL DB via Azure Policy, enabling Defender for Cloud alerts and automating secret rotation using Key Vault references in ADF.
Stakeholder Management: You proactively align with product owners, (platform/data) architects and security stakeholders; you translate platform strategy into concrete roadmaps and communicate changes clearly to ensure adoption and continuity.
Example: For a platform upgrade, you present impact and mitigations to Product Owners, schedule a change window with CAB and communicate fallback scenarios via Teams and release notes.
Knowledge Sharing: You mentor junior colleagues, perform code and pipeline reviews, and foster a learning community through documentation and knowledge sessions.
Example: Organising a guild session about Bicep best practices and refactoring module structures with a junior into small, versioned units to improve deployment speed and reliability.
Analytical ability: You quickly understand platform‑wide and chain‑related incidents and convert findings into structural improvements that increase stability and performance.
Example: Linking telemetry from Log Analytics with ADF run history to identify a networking rule error, updating the Bicep module and ensuring regression tests in the CI/CD pipeline validate the fix.
Requirements:
demonstrable experience in managing Azure data or cloud platforms.
Solid knowledge of Bicep, CI/CD, DevOps pipelines, and preferably PowerShell and C#/.NET.
English and Slovak – fluent.
Previous experience in similar role.
